- At E3 2010 we got a chance to visit SouthPeak Games to see their current offerings and one of the titles we got to play was Called Nail’d. Nail’d is a Motorcross/ATV racing game being developed by Techland (Portland); the team behind Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, and published by Deep Silver; the team behind the creation that is D1rt and upcoming Ride to Hell - that focuses on speed and jumps and all the eye catching moments not seen in traditional racing. While the version of the game we saw was an early Alpha build which lacked most of the tracks, the online support and other features that will be included at a later date, we were still able to play this arcade style racer.
There were only two tracks available to play at E3, which were Sawmill and Railroad. Techland plans on adding 12 additional tracks to the final version of the game before release. On the Sawmill track there are various logs that are down across the track as well as big circular saws going that can cut you as your racing through the track. And in the Railroad track theirs trains that you can land on to get to shortcuts as well as tunnels that have trains in them that you must avoid. There are a variety of shortcuts in the 2 tracks that we played that can be used to dodge certain hazards as well as get past the other racers. While the game’s sense of speed is incredible, the addition of the Boost helps you out in tough situations, while also reaching areas that would be otherwise unobtainable. Throughout each track there will be rings of fire and fire doors that you must drive or fly through in order to increase your boost meter because in this game… “I have the need. The need to SPEED!! WOW!!”
Nail’d will have full online support that will allow 12 players to race against each other from all over the world. There will be the traditional leaderboards on PSN and Xbox Live to keep track of your scores and compare with your friends and your enemies. They’re [Techland] are looking to include a unique feature that will all you to you look up players both near and far. The focus of the matchmaking system will be on players that are local in relation to where you live, however you will be given the option to play against anyone anywhere anytime. Nail’d runs off the Chrome Engine that was developed by Techland and is backed by the creative and talented individuals both at Techland and Deep Silver. The motorbikes and ATVs are fully customizable as well as your choice of drivers. There are no licensed ATV or Motorcross bikes within the game.
Motorbikes and ATVs will all race on the same track together at the same time. Defying gravity and pushing the driver and the vehicle of your creation to their breaking points is key to getting that well deserved victory. For those unfamiliar with off-road racing titles, there is a bit of a learning curve as I found myself crashing a few times before getting use the insane speed, the topography and terrain of the game. Don’t lose the boost and look for this game in Fall 2010 as this will release for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
